Muchas veces se desconoce el mundo de las Tecnologías de Operación (OT), pensando que es algo completamente diferente a lo que son las Tecnologías de la Información (TI). Sin embargo, ambas son clave para la productividad, los registros, las operaciones y el mantenimiento de los equipos en las empresas.

Porque las OT se preocupan de la comunicación entre maquinarias especializadas, detectando y mejorando los procesos físicos, dispositivos e infraestructuras, ¿cómo? gracias al uso de soluciones de hardware y software. Sistemas que, además, son comúnmente utilizados en el entorno industrial y se encuentran, durante este último tiempo, susceptibles a ciberataques.

Daños que cada vez más se hacen representativos de esta nueva realidad digital, volviéndose comunes las brechas de datos o disrupciones significativas. Una situación que, anteriormente, no hubiese sido posible ya que las OT no estaban conectadas a internet pero la innovación tecnológica se expandió.

Por lo cual, cualquier tipo de falla podría afectar gravemente sus componentes críticos. Provocando, por ejemplo, apagones inesperados, pérdida de bienes, agravios a la propiedad intelectual o, más bien, daños severos en las vidas de las personas.

Asimismo, las compañías deben estar conscientes de estos peligros tomando las medidas necesarias para evitarlos, ¿cómo? Extendiendo sus defensas perimetrales para prevenir vulneraciones de datos a través de la Virtual Private Network (VPN), o red privada virtual, mejorando las prácticas para contener intromisiones, y conociendo los protocolos para reducir los tiempos de inactividad y pronta recuperación.

Pasos a seguir que no sólo ayudan en la detención de estas violaciones, sino también grandes costos.
